Since 2019 I have been growing food professionally at Miami Dade College, growing fresh produce for the campus food pantry, in an area of Miami scarce with food resources.
With a Master’s Degree in Ecology from the University of Florida, and a graduate of the Florida Master Gardener Volunteer program, I manage the 48 raised beds on the MDC campus growing and harvesting fresh fruits and vegetables 12 months a year.
As a native of Miami, I have always been around backyard gardens. Not always with great results. There were times I wished there was someone who could come into my yard and help with the specific problems I was having. Was my soil healthy? Why are my tomatoes looking so weird? What do I do about the bugs on my plants?
I started Growin’ with the hope of bringing that knowledge to others, sharing the joy and healthful benefits of growing your own food at home.
